The Great Taipei Street Recycling Hustle

Posted in Uncategorized on February 26, 2010 by streetthunder

While can collecting is a common way for people to raise much-needed funds in cities the world-over, the recycling hustle in Taipei has become an art-form in its own right as those living in the margins save face in a face-loss situation by showing great ingenuity and serious stacking/balancing and welding skills to eek out a living off the refuse of the city.

Big Hercules in the Big Apple

A couple nights ago at Street Thunder Headquarters, we finally rented and watched Hercules in New York featuring the main man Arnold Schwarzenegger.  The movie was shot in 1969, came out in 1970, and features the dude in his first acted role.  In a nutshell, Arnold is basically unable to speak english in this movie and was even dubbed over by some other guy in the version that was shown to audiences.  This film pretty much rules and is absolutely worth seeing.  I included our favorite scene, to illustrate the genius involved in the production of such a film.  Hope you dudes enjoy!

Not All Movies Are Meant to Be Enjoyed – Camelot Is a State of Mind

This is a valuable lesson I learned last night while watching George Romero’s exquisite film KnightRiders. This film was made between Dawn of the Dead in ’79 and Day of the Dead in ’85, boasting a run-time not far from most Bollywood films.  All the various plots and subplots are centered around this traveling-renaissance-fair-motorcycle-jousting-reenactment-schtick run by Ed Harris with the nemesis being gore-wizard Tom Savini.

More interestingly, what i’ve been discovering is that there is actually an indian cricket franchise named after the film, owned by perhaps the most famous actor in the world: Shahrukh Khan.

To put it bluntly, both Shahrukh Khan and Street Thunder challenge you to sit through this whole film.  And if you do choose to take up this undertaking, I can assure you that you will learn something of yourself along the way.  As Ed Harris puts it, “I’m not trying to be a hero! I’m fighting the dragon! “

I like that this painting looks like an Incantation cover  yet was painted in 1494 by Bernardino Parenzano. Props to Parenzano.

Avenue J Pizza Master

Not to make this into a food blog or anything, but this little documentary rules, and this dude rules, and his pizza seriously rules.  Very OG pizza master status.  Film by Jenni Morello.  Peep game son!

I’m trying to get better at illustrator, and make use of doodles and all, so I’ll be posting these little doodads from time to time.  Extinction of Mankind provided the soundtrack for this one.
